Website positioning – how does it work?
Website positioning, also referred to as search engine optimization (SEO) is based on actions that are to enable our website to be displayed in the first positions in Google or another search engine, for the most popular keywords closely related to the subject of our website . The interested person searches for a given phrase by entering it in the search engine, meanwhile our site is offered in the Google search engine ranking by placing appropriate words and phrases in the text that match the search person’s phrase. This is the ranking of websites created on the basis of special algorithms by Google, will decide whether there will be a link to your website and as a result whether you will get traffic from this search engine and interested in your services / products.
How does Google work and how to use it?
Internet search engines including Google are based on the creation of rankings and indexes. They use complicated algorithms for calculations, assessing indexed websites based on several dozen elements (ranking factors). All these elements can be divided into three main categories, which are taken into account:
- the popularity of the site
- link popularity (along with signals from social media),
- construction, design, and content of the site
Below, we’ll take a closer look at the main factors currently having the greatest impact on the positioning of the page on Google.
The popularity of a given website is counted on the basis of reports measuring the number of hits in the search engine in a predetermined time. In addition, visits are also taken into account, also determined in set time parameters and the total time spent on learning about the content of the website by the user (as interesting from the user’s point of view is the page).
In this case, the positioning of the page is based on the placement of special text in the page title and in its description (meta decription). This procedure is aimed at encouraging a potential recipient to react, or at least at the click of the presented link, which will redirect him to the right site.
The amount of time that an Internet user will spend on our site is closely dependent on the content that is contained in it and the individual interests and preferences of the recipient. So, if we write about plants, the reader clicks the link if it has similar interests, e.g. potted plants. If our site does not contain content about potted plants or they are of poor quality – it is very likely that the internet user will leave our site quickly.
Therefore, it should be remembered that the content (content) on each website should be bothering, interesting, encouraging the recipient to continue reading – in accordance with the “content is king” principle.
Through this action, we will make the visitor spend a relatively long time on the site (time on site). She will come back to it (she would enter the name of our page in the google search box), and maybe recommend it to others.
In addition, this will increase the popularity of the website, which will translate into a better position in the search engine ranking.
Link popularity
Link popularity is one of the key factors determining the popularity of websites and very strongly affecting the high ratings of a given website in the Google ranking.
The link popularity rate is determined by the number of links that lead to our site from other sites and verify the value of these links. It works on the basis of verifying all pages that lead directly to our website.
Links are treated differently. Each link is tested for localization on the website, e.g. link from st
