A couple of months ago I challenged myself to rank pages without using the keyword expression in the title tag. After some experimentation I got it to work.
In a recent Web designer Hangout, Google’s John Mueller stated that exaggerating the keyword phrase can cause Google to become cautious of a websites. Is it possible that including keywords to title tag, H1. and so on could work versus you?
SEO Keywords Finest Practices
In a discussion with another search online marketer he stated that his dish for on-page SEO was:
- Add keywords to title
- Include keywords to URL
- Include keywords to H1
- Add keywords in material
That formula is the traditional SEO finest practice going back to at least2000 I understand since I existed.

My question to myself was, is ranking today the like it remained in 2000? Plainly it can’t be. That’s why I challenged myself to rank a page without the keywords in the title.
I will show you one example. There are many examples out there.
I did a look for “ how to get a business loan with bad credit” and discovered that nearly every websites was missing those keywords from the title tag. The only page that featured that keyword phrase was at the bottom of the search engine result.
Inquiry Growth
Obviously, query expansion plays a role in ranking web pages that do not include the keyword in the title tag.
Query growth is an approach where an online search engine will find web pages that answer the search query, despite the fact that the keywords aren’t on the web page.
Online search engine do this by including synonyms, utilizing stemming and other approaches to identify more pages to think about.
The net result is that it makes basic keyword SEO practices obsolete. Mentally, many people will agree, this is so.

What got me thinking of this was a recent Google Web designer Hangout where John Mueller states that utilizing keywords too much may cause Google to lose trust in the web page.

” Another thing that I in some cases see, particularly with e-commerce websites that kind of battle with this sort of a problem is that they go to a severe on the classification page because they include those keywords over and over and over again.
And what happens in our systems then is we take a look at this page and we see these keywords repeated so typically on that page that we believe well, something is type of fishy with this page, with concerns to these keywords, well possibly we need to be more careful when we show it.”
I am not saying that adding the keyword expression to the title tag will make Google believe your websites is “ fishy” however, John Mueller put that out there and in my opinion, it pays to hearken what he says.
Certainly query growth contributes because company loan keyword expression and in many other keyword expressions.
However one should consider whatever because there are many ranking aspects and according to John Mueller, there are elements that work against you. De-ranking elements?
Trust and Absence of Keyword Stuffing
Mueller continued his advice about preventing keyword stuffing and said that an absence of keyword stuffing will make Google trust a page more.
” So that when we take a look at this page we’ll see … this is a sensible page, there’s good content here, we can show it for these terms. We do not have to fret about whether or not somebody is attempting to unnaturally exaggerate it with those keywords. “
Should You Keyword Things Your Title Tag?
I still rank pages with the keyword expression in the title tag. So definitely, do not take this to suggest that adding keywords in the title tag will have a negative impact.
The point of this article is to show that some SEO solutions might be considered to be obsolete or out of date. It may be time to catch up with how Google ranks sites today.
