Google’s John Mueller on a Web designer Hangouts addressed a question about social bookmarking for links technique. Google’s Mueller offered insight into how Google treats low quality link building.
What is Social Bookmarking for Hyperlinks?
Social Bookmarking is a variation of online forum spamming. The idea behind is that social networks sites contain “authority” which by producing links on social networks sites, a brand-new site could obtain a few of this “authority” from those websites and begin ranking.
The issue with that technique is that there is no “authority” signal. There is no such thing.
A websites can acquire numerous links from appropriate sites and end up being reliable for a topic. However there is no actual “authority” signal or metric.
There is no such thing as an authority metric. While links can be a procedure of authoritativeness, there is no actual authority metric and the result links can be restricted or improved by elements like relevance.
In the above diagram, a lot of SEOs would prefer the Strong Websites for a link. But the Weak Websites can be better if it’s on subject. The “strong websites” might be less desirable if it’s not relevant.
A page with incoming links pertinent for Subject A, will make that page pertinent for Subject A. However if your page has to do with Topic Z, that link is most likely not going to be useful to you in terms getting a ranking benefit.
A web page does not acquire authority, it just acquires links and those links just matter when they are also pertinent.
So getting links from social networks or social bookmarking sites does not confer any particular benefit due to the fact that they are naturally unimportant and any incoming links are likewise unimportant.
When took a look at in terms of how links are evaluated and ranked in a contemporary online search engine, the concept of getting a ranking gain from bookmarking sites is quickly seen as not possible.

Does Social Bookmarking for Hyperlinks Affect Rankings?
This is the question that the web designer asked:
” I social bookmarked my site. After one week I discovered that the site which I bookmarked has been marked as spam.
Do the pages have any effect on my ranking?”
This is what John Mueller had to say about using social bookmarking websites for link structure:
” I don’t think those pages would have any effect on your ranking since most likely we’re likewise disregarding those social bookmark websites, the links from there.
That’s a truly, truly old SEO technique and we have a great deal of practice in acknowledging those sort of links and simply neglecting them.”
The strategy of utilizing “social bookmarking” for links in order to improve rankings is not suggested since it is inadequate. Utilizing social bookmarking websites for links does not work to improve rankings. Google overlooks those links.
